Meet the Directors

Kai Fulker and Katherine Armstrong moved with their two border collies Darby and Drift from Denver in November 2013 to Patzcuaro to take over the Directorship of Casa Werma from Craig Morman. In the first five months, they hosted four week-long programs and the pilgrimage of the Sakyong. All this time, they were learning the ropes and developing their Spanish language skills from tourist-level to actual communication with the all-Spanish-speaking staff and the town of Patzcuaro.

Kai (also known as Kiki) worked for herself for over 20 years as a professional glass blower in Colorado. Her business was Solstice Art Glass. She supplemented her income as a gardener and designer. She began her Shambhala path when she connected with Eva Wong and her Daoist Qigong lineage and practice. Kai was Eva Wong’s primary coordinator in Colorado for five years.

Katherine (known as Ryn, and now Reina) is a performance and theater artist, originally from Texas. She became an occupational therapist in 2009 and worked with seniors with a community-based service provider InnovAge in Aurora/Denver for over three years before moving to Casa Werma. She began her Shambhala path by moving to Shambhala Mountain Center in April 2004. She spent several months in New York City to train as a yoga instructor with Jill Satterfield of Vajra Yoga and to study dharma and performance with Shambhala teachers Lanny Harrison, Laura Simms, Arawana Hayashi, and Agness Au, among others. She returned to Colorado after realizing she was too old to live penniless in New York.  She and Kai met a few weeks later.
